Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival Beaune    H-B
The historical part of Beaune is fairly small but fascinating.

Day 2 Beaune to Beaune   B&B  24, 38 or 52 km
Today is flexible. The visit of Beaune can take half a day by itself and we highly recommend the Hospices. The smallest loop is a warm-up ride through the vineyards north of Beaune. The second one pushes us to Nuits-Saint-Georges. The third option includes the Cistercien Abbey of Citeaux.

Day 3 Beaune to Rully H-B 30 or 42 km
Go south of Beaune and cycle through the village of Pommard, we enter Chardonnay land and the villages of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. We then follow the canal du Centre until you get to the quiet village of Rully.

Day 4 Rully to Buxy H-B 35 or 50 km
You carry on south through the Côtes Chalonnaises. The village of Mercurey produces one of the best pinot noir. The route is a bit more hilly with a succession of hamlets, river inlets and creeks, woods and of course vineyards before you settle down in the typical Burgundy market town of Buxy for a couple of nights.

Day 5 Buxy to Buxy    B&B  40 or 70 km
Our optional ride from Buxy is a loop south to the great world-wild known Abbey of Cluny. As yesterday, the itinerary goes through numbers of villages, gallo-roman ruins and varied countrysides.
After a good break in Cluny to visit one of the most prestigious abbeys in France, you can cycle back to Buxy by the cycle path which is trafic free.

Day 6 Buxy to Nolay    H-B  45 km
From Buxy, you travel north-west until you cross the canal du centre at Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune. This itinerary is definitly a good contrast to the wine making land. In fact, you will be crossing a land a cattle farms, oak woods and isolated farms. This ride ends in the market town of Nolay.

Day 7 Nolay to Beaune B&B  28, 44 or 60 km
Three options. The Chateau of la Rochepot for the short one. The 2 others take you to the plateau and the market town of Bligny sur Ouche. You then either go straight down to Beaune or follow the lovely Ouche Valley to Pont d’Ouche. After a short uphill ride, it’s a 15km smooth downhill ride through magnificent forests then back to the vineyards at Savigny-les-Beaune.

Day 8 The trip finishes in Beaune after breakfast
