Bordeaux is far more than just a city.
Bordeaux is the capital of Aquitaine, a flourishing province, once part of England’s treasures.
It is the great “African” port of the French Colonial Empire.
Bordeaux’s wines, claret, white and rosé wines, are the most famous of all French wines, famous the world over. They are so well known that investors, hailing from many different places, vie with one another to purchase them.
All along the banks of the Garonne River, the city is captivating. Its influence extends far beyond the city limits. This influence can be found especially along the Gironde, an estuary about 80 kilometres long, the place where the Garonne and the Dordogne Rivers mingle.
Here, the Médoc peninsula is wedged between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, and is far away from the mass travel routes. This is where you will best appreciate the refinements from the vineyards, as well as the authentic geographical and cultural heritage of the area, combined with the magnificence of the Atlantic Ocean.
Light traffic along the roads, combined with a flattish countryside, make the bike the most pleasant form of transport you can dream of!
Pauillac is a very quiet harbour on the banks of the Gironde. It lies 40 kilometres north of Bordeaux, and forms the ideal starting point for your trip. From there, you will have so much to discover!
The train service from Bordeaux is excellent. We can also arrange for transport either from the station or from the airport.
